Windows:
- a Windows Operating system
Linux:
- Wine for Linux or run from python source
For Flash plug-in (Windows):
- Flash for Internet Explorer (ie. you should be able to access grooveshark.com with your IE browser).
Version 0.201 is broken, use this instead, details later:
Download:
http://turnip-town.googlecode.com/files/setup_gw_0202.exe (run the .exe to install)
or
http://turnip-town.googlecode.com/files/gw_0202.zip (unzip it somewhere and run gw.exe)
NOTE: EXPECT ANOTHER NEW VERSION (0.203) WITHIN A COUPLE DAYS
Update: if you're using 0.190 (0.191) things should work again (the problem with the Flash widgets on GrooveShark.com has been fixed).
Over on the GrooveWalrus Last.fm group (http://www.last.fm/group/GrooveWalrus), Houbos says:
Latest version 0.201 works under Wine (Ubuntu Linux 9.10 Koala, everything default). Everything works fantastically. Thanks! For Mac users: http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/ Screenshots: http://yfrog.com/jascreenshot006yp ; http://yfrog.com/3uscreenshot007jp

Checking the web logs, looks like there's quite a bit of traffic from Italy this month (representing about 40% of the total, which is a lot). So... bravo Italia, mandami un bel modello di moda. Inoltre, una Ferrari.
New version of GrooveWalrus is now available. Streaming should work a little better, temporary files and a larger 'buffer' were added so hopefully you won't get 'playing the last song not the new song' problems. A new plug-in that allows you to play music via Flash (just like old times). Just the .zip version for now:
Download: http://turnip-town.googlecode.com/files/gw_0201.zip
(Unzip it somewhere and run gw.exe)
Things that are BUSTED:
- this version will stop working, presumably within a month
Changes:
- changed: load playlist functionality (Load Playlist button) default view displays *.xspf, *.m3u, *.mp3; ability to select multiple files; ability to open mp3 files
- changed: temp files now use 3 file rotation, deletes next file
- changed: increased 'buffer' size, should fix problems where files are merged/playing the previous song
- fixed: plug-in path errors
- added: Flash plug-in, allows you to play Flash music streams, needs to stay open for playback
- changed: layout changed to allow scrolling on the Plug-in tab
- changed: hacked in some changes to allow flash plug-in to work
- added: httplib2 and urlgrabber modules to /main_thirdp/
- added: 'recent' option on the My Last.fm tab added, displays most recently played tracks for a user
- fixed: Search and Song Collection local database errors
- fixed: bio image division by zero error
- added: es_AR (Spanish, Argentina) translation file (Thanks Juan!)
Version 0.201's source code is zipped up. If you want to give it a shot on Linux, it should probably work (better?). I'm not even sure if the previous version would have worked, I've included some of the required third-party modules in /main_thirdp/. Instructions and requirements: http://groove-walrus.turnip-town.net/dru/node/87 Did anyone get this to work on Linux, let me know if you did / do. 11y3y3y3y43@gmail.com

There's a new plug-in in version 0.201 (to be released shortly) that allows you to use the 'old-style' Flash streaming (Windows only). Just open it from the Options>Plug-ins tab. It needs to stay open to play via Flash. So the types of music playing are as follows:
- local mp3's on your hardrive
- streaming from GrooveShark (without Flash)
- streaming from GrooveShark or Dizzler with Flash via the Flash Plug-in

A couple of links that might help you install pymedia on Ubuntu, if you're having problems:
http://johnpaulett.com/2008/06/18/pymedia-on-ubuntu-hardy-heron/
http://pythonide.blogspot.com/2007/10/how-to-install-pymedia-on-ubuntu-g...
(note: Windows users can ignore this)
The source code has been updated to make a workable version on Linux. Things you should know:
- I'm using Ubuntu, it's only been tested on Ubuntu
- covers and biography information are disabled
- there's a 4 second wait between playing songs/stopping a song
- playing sometimes doesn't work, waiting 10 seconds and hitting play again may solve the problem
- other problems, see http://groove-walrus.turnip-town.net/dru/node/82
Okay, Linux requirements:
- Python 2.6
- wxPython 2.8 (called: python-wxgtk in the Ubuntu package manager)
- Pymedia http://pymedia.org/tut/install_src.html
After those are installed, unzip the following and run "python gw.py" from the console.
Download: http://turnip-town.googlecode.com/files/gw_0200_src.zip
Alright, the Linux version of GrooveWalrus I'm working on: 1. plays a song, 2. doesn't crash after playing one song. So, expect a release and instructions later today or tomorrow.

A couple months ago I made a refreshed, Getting Started video. I used Vimeo, and was disappointed I couldn't annotate it. Checking it out again, it looks pretty reasonable and may help some people figure out what they can do with the last.fm portion.
