Awesome Update!
Woo hoo! Thank you so much for installing the option to record at 80, 128, 192, 256, and especially 320kbps! This has got to be the best music grabbing utility on the net. I've used websites like skreemr.com to get music, but it was never really that great quality. But with your application and being able to get music from Grooveshark and Last.fm people will be able to get whatever music they want!
I look forward to any future updates that put into GrooveWalrus, but to me the build that you now have is almost perfect. The reason I say that is that when trying to record a song, if there was a way where a song plays begins to play at exactly when the waiting countdown timer hits 0:00 instead of -0:04 or 0:03 then GrooveWalrus would be even more perfect. It is understandable that this happens as a result of connection lag and other factors, but it would be nice if the song didn't start playing 2~8 seconds late or 2~8 seconds early (or before the countdown timer hits zero).
Therefore, I suggest that even if a user adjusts the waiting time to 20 seconds, hits the record the button, hits the play button, and then waits for the song to begin that even if a song is ready to play that it will begin at EXACTLY 0:00. That way, it saves the user the trouble of having to record a song manually at a 2 second countdown wait time just so that the user records as little dead sound as humanly possible when the song starts 2~8 seconds after 0:00. As a result, the user only has to worry about hitting the play button and the song will be recorded EXACTLY at the 0:00 time automatically with little to no dead sound at the beginning of the song. Also, it would be great if the song stopped being recording as soon as dead space was detected at the end of the song as well.
I don't know if this is possible for GrooveWalrus, but I just thought to give a suggestion as to how GrooveWalrus can become even better. I'll send this post as a email so that you can read my suggestion faster if you haven't read this post already. I hope I'm not asking for too much. :)
Won't record anything
Love the software and how it works, really ties the functionalites of those two sites together well. However, I'm in a bit of a pickle.
When I first downloaded and installed GW earlier, I could record files and they'd be written to the hard drive. Of course, due to the fact that my Stereo Mix option was unavailable, the only thing that was recorded was silence.
So I grabbed the latest Realtek HD Audio release (R2.35), since I'm using a computer with a built-in soundcard. Now I get the Stereo Mix option and it seems to detect sound internally, but GrooveWalrus will no longer create any MP3 files in the mp3s folder! I tried re-installing the application but that didn't help. I'm running Windows 7 RC1, presumably just like the devs (judging from the youtube videos) so I'm not sure what could be wrong.
EDIT: Oops, meant this to be a new comment and not a reply, sorry.
RE: Won't record anything
Ummm, hmm. Yeah, I'm running 7 RC1.
- are you getting anything in the gw.exe.log file, does the "Errors have occured' pop-up show up when you exit the program?
You can send me an email with the log file, if you'd like 11y3y3y3y43@gmail.com
I'll take a look tomorrow at what's going on, it should just write a file no matter what (if you not in admin mode it'll write to somewhere in your user dir), unless there's error, which I might of hidden.
I found the idea of using "Stereo Mix" from some other freeware recording software, I'll try/you can, look for something like that and see if that works.
