Importing Your Old Favorites Into 0.206

Okay, so, your favorites disappeared from the Favorites list. No problem, here's some steps to import them:

0. Hit 'F5' to save your current playlist if you don't want to lose it.
1. From the 'File' menu, click 'Open'.
2. Hopefully that should display a directory something like '..\GrooveWalrus\playlists'. Navigate up a directory, so that the GrooveWalrus directory is displayed.
3. You should see a 'faves.xspf', select that and click the 'Open' button.
4. Your favorites are now on your playlist, select the first one and scroll down and hit the Shift key and click the last one to select them all.
5. Right-click on one of the selected songs and select 'Add to Favorites' from the menu.

Update: I borked something, if you don't have a Last.fm account you'll need to do these steps first (or wait till the next version):

1. Right-click and download this file.
2. Copy that file to your c:\program files\GrooveWalrus\main_controls\ directory, overwriting what's there.
3. Exit and restart GrooveWalrus.
4. Do the steps above.

Can't find songs on GrooveWalrus that are on Grooveshark

I was wondering why i can't find songs on GrooveWalrus that i can find on Grooveshark? specifically, the works of Joy Williams. She has three new EP's that are on grooveshark ie: her "One of those days - ep", and "songs from this" and "Songs from that". But when i use GrooveWalrus i can't find any of them.

Could it be because when i search for her these albums i speak of are in her "show additional content" section on Grooveshark? you can find me on last.fm @ http://www.last.fm/user/Oopcident
i check it daily.

re: Can't find songs on GrooveWalrus

The program uses Grooveshark's tinysong.com for searching. I don't know the exact search terms you're using but for me searching with "Joy Williams One of those days" gives me 1 result, "Joy Williams songs from this" gives me 4, and "Joy Williams songs from that" gives me 1.

If you want to play an album there's other options you might consider, eg. enter the artist and album on the Album tab and click the search icon, then Playlistize! the result, that should: 1. Put the entire album on the playlist; 2. Automatically search for the songs at playtime.

my search terms were not specific enough.

Thanks for getting back so quick!

I found if i specify the terms like you said "joy williams songs from this" i got more accurate results, than just "joy williams".

since i knew all the songs were on grooveshark i specifically searched for the songs i was looking for ie; "joy williams speaking a dead language" and found it bingo! But that particular song doesn't pop up if you just search for the phrase "joy williams", of groovewalrus & tinysong.com.

sorry if i got too detailed! Thanks for the feedback again! I really am liking this music player! kudos! Hope to see the FAQ section on the page soon. :)

re: my search terms were

Initially, I did suggest to GrooveShark that tinysong.com should have options to search specifically on say artist='some artist', song='some song', and album='some album', which would make the results much better from my perspective. But after some tweaking, things work just well enough now that finding a more complicated solution doesn't seem worthwhile (at the moment, maybe I'll take a look at it again sometime down the road).
